This year, the Countryside Team are running the usual Junior Rangers workshops during the school holidays but are also offering free activities for the under 5s to help them discover more about the natural world and to burn off some energy!
Events planned for the Under 5s take place during school term, when their older siblings are at school. They usually consist of pond dips, bug hunts and natural arts and crafts. As well as the main activity, other resources are provided if your child wants to try something else.
This month, toddlers and under 5s are invited to come along to Churchfields recreation ground, Churchfield Road, Weybridge KT13 8DB on Friday 10 May, between 1pm and 2.45pm to try some natural arts and crafts. Please note that children need to be accompanied by an adult who is prepared to be ‘hands-on’!
For the older children, Junior Rangers are back during the Half Term Holiday with a wide range of nature based activities from wildlife and nature exploration to learning bushcrafts or craft skills that use natural materials. The Junior Rangers session will be held on Wednesday 29 May, from 10am to 11.30am. Meet in West End Lane car park, West End Lane, Esher KT10 8LB.
Cllr Jan Fuller, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, said: “Many children love everything to do with nature while toddlers are just about to discover how much fun they can have in the great outdoors. Time spent in your local countryside and woodland is never wasted, and children will often happily play and explore for hours. The Countryside Team has put together some ideas for activities to get them started. Why don’t you come along and make the most of these free events?”
